Back Home
This past week end we finally got a free week end to go back home for a couple of days. What a nice change it is to go to the farm. On friday night we went to a hockey game in Luseland, that sure brought back memories of being a kid, when being at the hockey game meant running around all night,, eating junk food and playing hide and seek in "the tunnel" lol. It's funny to see how the kids that are there now still do some of the same stuff I remember doing, it just goes to show that all kids pretty much have the same imagination at that age. Although it's a much smaller crowd than you would find at a NHL game or even a game in a bigger city, there seems to be just as much energy. I guess that's one of hte great things about a small town is that they truly support their own, not just because everybody else does, but because they truly believe in them.
We spent some of the time out on the farm helping dad with various cattle chores as well. We bedded down some barns, moved some calves, moved the calf shelter, great stuff. It was such a gorgeous day to be outside, the sun was shining, there was no wind, I'm so glad we got out of the house. The little calves are so playful and cute, all running around and bucking up, they were hilarious! I managed to get some good pics. It's funny how doing work on the farm feels like it has more meaning, like you really are doing something valuable and working towards something that means something. As I sit behind my desk and enter time ticket data and answer phones, I can't help but wonder, what is the purpose of this? What is this getting anyone? In a job like this you don't really get to see the fruits of you labor as much as you do on the farm that's for sure. I guess that's why my job feels so meaningless some days, Other than a paycheck in my account I'm not really gaining anything here for myself or anyone it seems. Oh well I guess we're all in search of something that has meaning to it aren't we? Some day....
Anyway, the week end at home was great, I wish we had more time to go home and help out, but life does get in the way. We try to help when we're there anyway, hopefully that counts for something. I really have a lot of respect for the farmers and ranchers, they do more work in one week than a lot of people do in a year, and I'm not too proud to admit that I couldn't do what they do and still have my sanity, lol. Support the farmers!!!
