Come As You Are

Just random thoughts, things I think are funny or things that make me angry. For whoever cares to read it.

Name:
Location: Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada

Statisically single but in a long term relationship with a really great guy. Still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, so I'm just working to pay the bills right now. Grew up on the farm small town style, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Lloydminster bugs me.

This song totally speaks to me....

    I wanna be the minority
    I don't need you, authority
    Down with the moral majority
'Cause I wanna be the minority

I pledge allegiance to the underworld
One nation under "dog," there of which I stand alone
A face in the crowd; unsung, against the mold
Without a doubt, singled-out, the only way I know!

    Chorus

Stepped out of the line, like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time, to my own beat now
    The only way I know
One light, one mind flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For cryin' out loud," she screams unto me
A free-for-all, fuck 'em all, "you are your own sight"'

    Chorus!

One light, one mind flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
"For cryin' out loud," she screams unto me
A free-for-all, fuck 'em all, "you are your own sight

    Chorus

I love Green Day!!! They send such a positive message, the magority of their songs are all about the idea that you should just be who you are, think what you want to think.....and a big F#*k You!!! To whoever doesn't like it. Basically they're telling us we shouldn't feel the need to be a sheep.

Bands like Greed Day are unfairly judged in the eyes of todays society, just for being different and outspoken. There so many cookie cutter groups and "artists" out there that are all about the "bling" and trendy clothes, saying "dress like me becasue I wear all the cool clothes, etc". And the sad part is that most people buy into it, so you see a lot of todays kids wearing designer jeans, trendy shirts, etc and so are all their friends and millions of other people. So, looking the same as everyone else is cool??? Spending $180+ on one pair of jeans, jsut so you have the same ones as J-Lo or whoever is a good thing??? How does that make you unique? Music is a large influence on todays society and most of it is telling our society to be a bunch of sheep.

It seems that bands that originated from around the time that the "Grunge Era" was happening still stand out, and still stick to their message that being yourself is a good thing. Think: Green Day, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden to name a few They've never sold out and became something they weren't. Some ended their career while they would still be remembered in a good way, not the band that stuck around way too long and lost their quality, others ended way too soon, while they were at the height of their career (RIP Kurt Cobaine). You have to look past they way the song sounds, or the bad publicity that surrounds a group, but look more at it's content, what kind of message are they sending.

Look at all the Pop and Rap "artists" that are influencing the kids today, listen to their songs....it's all about sex, violence, prejudice, getting boys to like you....oh and dressing like a ho. People are attracted to this kind of music becasue the "artists" are all nice looking clean cut carbon copies, that wear nice clothes (or slutty clothes that for some reason parents let theri 12 year old wear) So yeah maybe with some of these other groups, there might be some swearing in their lyrics, but I think glorifiying sex and telling a 12 year old that dressing like a slut is cool and will get boys to like you....now that's f#&ked up.

I'm not saying everyone else should ditch their Jessica Simson and Usher cds and listen to Nirvana instead, but perhaps people should be more open minded and look at the content of music rather than the image portrayed by the artist. Think about it, when you think of Mozart, you think classical, elegant, genius....when he was a lunitic drug addict, but we didn't let that bother us, or stop us from listening to his music. If he were around today our society would shun him and his music, however beatiful it may be. That's my beef o' the day.
